William H. Macy is opening up about the lasting love he shares with his wife of 28 years, Felicity Huffman.
While attending the New York City premiere of The Running Man on Sunday, Nov. 9, the 75-year-old actor spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about his decades-long romance with Huffman — and why their marriage continues to thrive nearly three decades later.
“She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” Macy said. “I’m crazy for her. She’s so alive, so evolving, and always striving. She keeps me on my toes.”
The couple, who first met in the early 1980s while performing at New York City’s Atlantic Theater Company, tied the knot in 1997 and share two daughters, Sophia and Georgia. Macy attended the premiere with Georgia by his side.
Shared Passions Keep Their Love Strong
Macy revealed that their shared love for storytelling and show business is what binds them together.
“We share the theater and showbiz and storytelling — that’s really at the core of our relationship,” Macy explained. “And I don’t recommend this at home, but we talk the talk and walk the walk.”
He also added that the couple constantly supports each other’s creative projects. “She’s shooting a thing up in Toronto now called Doc, and I read her scripts and talk to her. She reads mine, and we critique each other — somehow it works,” he said with a smile.
Standing Together Through Challenges
The Shameless star has long stood by Huffman’s side, including during her 2019 college admissions scandal, for which she served 11 days in prison and completed 250 hours of community service. Macy had called their relationship a “fairytale marriage” during a 2019 interview on Sunday Today, adding that he “loved her the second I saw her.”
Now, both actors are thriving in their respective careers again. Huffman recently returned to television, appearing on The Good Doctor, Criminal Minds: Evolution, and voicing a role in Supreme: The Battle for Roe. She currently stars as Dr. Joan Ridley in Fox’s new medical drama Doc.
Meanwhile, Macy stars opposite Glen Powell in the upcoming remake of The Running Man, hitting theaters on Nov. 14, 2025. The original 1987 film famously starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Ben Richards — and even Schwarzenegger himself endorsed the remake, saying it was “the only movie of mine I wanted redone.”
