Cristiano Ronaldo Says Fiancée Georgina Rodríguez ‘Didn’t Care’ About the Ring — She Just Wanted to Know He Was Honest
Cristiano Ronaldo is opening up about the emotional moment he proposed to Georgina Rodríguez — and the surprising reaction she had to her now-famous multi-million-dollar engagement ring.
During a revealing Nov. 4 interview with Piers Morgan, the 40-year-old soccer icon shared new details about his August proposal to Rodríguez, 31, after eight years of dating. Although her ring is estimated to cost more than $5 million, Ronaldo said her priority wasn’t the size or value of the stone.
“One thing I love is that she didn’t care about the ring,” Ronaldo told Morgan. “She asked me if I was honest, and I said, ‘I want you and I want to marry you.’”
The couple announced their engagement on Aug. 11, instantly breaking the internet when Rodríguez posted a photo featuring the massive oval diamond. But according to Ronaldo, the emotional moment behind the proposal mattered far more than the extravagant sparkler.
A Ring She Dreamed Of — Designed With Love
Even though she didn’t focus on the price, Ronaldo admitted he intentionally searched for a ring he knew Rodríguez would adore.
“She asked me for a ring to offer her because it was one of her dreams to have a good stone,” he said. “I work hard, and finally I found the one she loves.”
Experts estimate the center diamond alone to be around 35 carats, flanked by additional oval side stones set in platinum. Some compare the impressive size to the legendary Taylor-Burton Diamond once worn by Elizabeth Taylor.
A Late-Night, Unplanned Proposal — With Help From Their Kids
Ronaldo shared that the proposal happened unexpectedly at 1 a.m., with their daughters asleep in bed. But a surprise interruption made the moment even more special.
“As I was giving her the ring, my two kids came in and said, ‘Daddy, you’re going to give the ring to Mom and ask her to get married,’” Ronaldo recalled. “I said, ‘Wow, this is the right moment.’”
He admitted he held back tears but described it as a “beautiful” and deeply personal exchange.
“I’m not a very romantic guy,” he joked. “But I’m romantic in my own way.”
Wedding Plans — But Not Anytime Soon
As for when the couple will officially tie the knot, Ronaldo said they plan to wait until after the next World Cup — hopefully with a trophy in hand.
“She doesn’t like big parties,” Ronaldo explained. “She prefers private moments, and I respect that.”
