Halsey Fires Back at Audience Member Who Told Her to ‘Stop Talking and Play’ After ER Visit: ‘I Almost Died to Be Here’

Halsey isn’t holding back.

During her Boston concert on Monday, November 3, the pop star shut down an audience member who yelled for her to “stop talking and play” — just hours after she revealed she’d spent the night in the ER due to a sudden medical emergency.

The 31-year-old singer, who uses she/they pronouns, addressed the heckler directly from the stage during her second night at MGM Music Hall.

“You think you’re tough because you’re from Boston? I’m from Jersey, baby. I’ll whoop your ass,” Halsey told the crowd in a fiery moment caught on fan video. “My dad’s from Boston, my mom’s from Jersey — that basically makes me a f—ing demon. I almost f—ing died to be on this stage. I’m going to play whatever the f— I wanna play.”

Earlier that same day, the “Without Me” singer shared a health update on her Instagram Stories from Mass General Hospital, explaining she had been hospitalized overnight following an acute medical issue.

“Boston, I’m gonna be honest with you — after the show last night I was in the ER till 6 this morning,” she wrote. “Minor medical emergency but I’m A-Okay now and ready to rock tonight! Huge shout out to Mass General and Dr. Kian, Dr. Victoria, and my nurses Carolyn and Alicia for being the best team ever.”

Halsey has been open about her health struggles. In 2022, she revealed her diagnosis of lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder, which has required ongoing treatment, including chemotherapy.

Following the Boston concert incident, Halsey also appeared to address the moment on X (formerly Twitter), referencing her 2019 hit “Nightmare.”

“I’ve been polite but won’t be caught dead letting a man tell me what I should play in my set,” she wrote.

She later added in response to a fan, “He told me to ‘stop talking and play ____.’ There’s always one.”

Despite her recent medical scare, Halsey made it clear that nothing will stop her from performing for her fans.

“I almost died to be on this stage,” she reminded the audience. “So I’ll play whatever the f— I want.”
