Keith Powers Opens Up About How “Tough” It Was Finding the Perfect Engagement Ring for Fiancée Ryan Destiny (Exclusive)

The Uglies actor admits that finding the ideal sparkler for his longtime love wasn’t easy. Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards on November 3, Powers revealed how nerve-wracking engagement ring shopping can be.
“Man, it was tough,” Powers, 33, tells PEOPLE. “You have to ask your girlfriend what she likes without giving away the surprise. I knew the basis of what Ryan loved — but I was super indecisive. It was tough, but I got the right one. She loves it.”
Now that the hard part is behind him, the actor is looking forward to his next big role — husband and future father.
“I’m excited to call Ryan my wife and to start a family with her,” he says. “Even after a decade together, engagement feels like a new chapter. There’s so much to look forward to, and I’m ready to build a family with her.”
A Decade-Long Love Story
Keith Powers and Ryan Destiny have shared a love story that fans have adored for years. The couple first met at a Teen Vogue party in 2015 and quickly hit it off through Instagram. They initially kept their relationship private before confirming their romance in 2019 during an interview with We The Urban.
Destiny previously told MadameNoire that the decision to go public was spontaneous:
“We didn’t plan to. We just wanted to post a photo one day, and it naturally happened.”
From Breakup to Engagement Bliss
In early 2022, the pair briefly split to focus on their individual careers, but love won out. By early 2025, Destiny confirmed that the couple had rekindled their romance.

According to Essence, Powers proposed during an intimate, candlelit dinner at Rosewood Miramar Beach in Montecito, California — a moment he had planned for over a year.
“Things came up, and I had to keep pushing it back,” he told the outlet. “It made me anxious, but I never questioned God’s timing.”
The couple described the engagement as “surreal” and are now embracing the wedding planning process with “intention, patience, and communication.”
