Sofía Vergara Talks Embracing Comfort, Her Love for Skechers, and Dreaming of Blockbuster Roles Like Dune
Sofía Vergara is stepping into a new era of comfort and confidence — and it all started with a pair of Skechers.
In an exclusive chat with PEOPLE, the 53-year-old actress opened up about her partnership with Skechers, explaining that her newfound love for the brand came after two knee surgeries in the past year.
“I was going to have to be in tennis shoes for a long time,” Vergara shared. “I needed something I could wear with dresses and jeans. The memory foam inside Skechers is spectacular — perfect if you have to stay in your shoes all day.”
After undergoing her second knee surgery in July 2025, Vergara says Skechers slip-ons became her go-to at home.
“I can’t be barefoot while healing,” she adds. “The slip-ons are heaven — easy to take on and off when I get on the bed or couch.”
Finding Comfort and Style After Surgery
Vergara’s partnership with Skechers came naturally — and a little inspiration came from her America’s Got Talent co-star, Howie Mandel, who also works with the brand.
“He told me how nice it was to work with them and how great the partnership was,” Vergara says. “We’ve been together for six years, and he’s the best.”
Even while filming AGT Season 20, Vergara paired Skechers with her glamorous live-show outfits.
“I knew I couldn’t wear heels after surgery, so I matched every outfit with Skechers,” she laughs. “It felt strange at first, but honestly, it was super comfortable.”
A Shift in Style and Confidence
Known for her glamorous red carpet looks, Vergara admits comfort wasn’t always part of her fashion choices.
“I’ve never really thought about comfort,” she admits. “If I’m going out, I just want to feel sexy — even if I’m uncomfortable.”
Now, her go-to style is a blend of relaxed and chic:
“I love pairing baggy jeans with sexy tops or corsets. It balances everything out.”
Vergara reflects on her early years growing up in Colombia and later in Miami, where she “lived in bathing suits.”
“I have so many old photos of me in swimsuits — people keep sending them to me!” she jokes. “Of course, things have changed. I’m 53 now, not 23.”
Life After Modern Family and What’s Next
It’s been 16 years since Modern Family premiered, and Vergara still can’t believe how quickly time has passed. After the show ended in 2020, the cast drifted apart due to the COVID shutdowns, but they’re planning a reunion soon.
“Eric Stonestreet is throwing a big party to celebrate his wedding, and I’m so excited to see everyone again,” she says.
Following her success in Modern Family and her dramatic role as Griselda Blanco in Netflix’s Griselda, Vergara says she’s ready to explore new territory.
“After 11 years on Modern Family and then Griselda, I feel like I can do whatever I want,” she shares. “I’d love to do a big blockbuster — something like Dune. I’ve never done anything like that, and it would be so much fun.”
